Ben Vautier: Culture Project 1

Ben Vautier was born July 18 1935, and works and lives in Nice. Vautier was interested in many french artist and musicians inspiring him with his writing, art and music. He is most famous for his text-based paintings.

How is my subject particularly "French"?

My subject is french, becasue Ben Vautiner is french. He was born in Naples, Italy. He was inspired by french artists Yves Klein, Marcel Duchamp and the Nouveaux RĂ©alistes and he deveolped his own personal type of art simliar to Dada.
He was inspired by artist Marcel Duchamp, the music of John Cage and joined the Fluxus artistic movement in the 1960s. His work was inspirational and beautiful just like French culture and art.

Ben Vautier uses the beautiful french language in his text paintings. Saying and quotes he uses shows the french language and cultures beauty and a delicate french attitude. The french language is beautiful and has a certain romance about the way its spoken. His artwork shows the beauty of the language with just a few words.

How Does your subject influence French culture?

Ben Vautiers work influenced French culture in a huge way. He was not only interested in art and painting, but also in music and writing. He owned a record store called Magazin which evoked peoples attention because of the way he decorated and the interior he designed for his store.

He was famous for his text paintings, and sculptures. he used script and comic book pieces in his art, capturing peoples eyes and attracting him to his delicately painted messages in acrylic paint. He also mounted things that he sculpted, especially birds. After they were mounted he added commentary. He created a whole new type of text painting to inspire other french artist, and make his art known all around France.

What are some major themes that your subject addresses?

Some of Ben Vautiers works have different themes, like the text writing paintings and the
sculptures on a mount. When Vautiers work is researched and looked at the most common theme of art that is found is the text paintings. The theme he created throughout h
is work, made him famous for a certain reason and gave people something to remember him by.
He focused on freedom, love, truth, humanity, fear, and beauty in his text art. He expressed human emotions through his painting, making people think about how simple life can be when it is enjoyed. The simple statements he showed through his work, gave people perspective on things that are sometimes over thought. Like "what you see is what you get" is a fair and common statement to remember. If something is assumed, then that is what it shall be.
